Ethnic Food Preparation Mentorship

I am in the Food Preparation group for the Ka Hana No‘eau Mentorship Program. In this group, we learn how to prepare different foods of different ethnic backgrounds and how to display them in an attractive way. So far, we have learned how to make pork laulau and lomilomi salmon. Uncle Tony Manantan taught us how to make pork laulau. He took the liberty of stripping the pork from the bone. Nathaniel, Kristy and Bryson were to cut the strips of pork into 4"x2" while Lexa and Brittney counted them into a cooler. When they were done cutting and counting, Lexa and Brittney were separate half the amount of pork into each cooler. Nathaniel and Bryson mixed the salt and pork together. The day before, Kristy, Brittney, Aunty jade, Mrs. Brown and I washed the laulau leaves and ti leaves and separated them by sizes. We also de-boned the ti leaves. We took two laulau leaves, put two pieces of pork inside, wrapped it up, and wrapped it up with two ti leaves. Right after that, I left but I know they cooked the pork laulau by boiling it and they also made the lomilomi salmon. This month, we are going to learn how to make different kinds of Hawaiian foods.

I'm in Mrs. Brown's Hawaiian foodd prep mentorship group. I am enjoying this experience tons! I want to take culinary arts in college and I thinkg this 10 week program will help me understand and be ready for any future goals I have in cooking.

We already did two community projects and helped cook for them but we got a lot out of it, like recipes and we make a lot of money. The whole experience from start to finish was worth it and totally cool! I don't regret signing up at all. I only with everyone could experience the awesome time I'm having!

I am enjoying being in the culinary arts mentorship program. I had a lot of fun making food for the health fair. It's fun learning how to cook new foods and be able to do it with my friends. I think this will be a good and fun experience for us. Especially because we'll get to eat! And we'll make our moms happy when we can make an edible and good looking dinner!
