Chef Alan Awana Visits Kohala Intergeneration Center
Wednesday, March 5, 2008

On Wednesday February 20 Chef Alan Awana from Washington Place visited with some of the culinary arts students at the Kohala Intergenerational Center. Chef Awana spoke to the students about working with them on a monthly basis to develop their interest in the culinary profession. The sit down interaction with the students and their culinary mentor Ms. Billy Brown, lasted and hour and covered such topics as: what the students wanted out of the program and the direction that they could see this program headed.
Also the students showed a great deal of interest in the baking and pastrie areas of the culinary profession. They requested that they would like to do something for their prom and expressed that they would like to have pastrie chefs assist them in making a cake for their prom.
Chef Awana will be meeting with David Fuertes, Program Director of Ka Hana No‘eau to ensure that the direction and focus of this venture is well thought out and planned.
Special thanks to David Fuertes, Billy Brown and the students of the culinary program for their time they spent with Chef Awana and a big mahalo to the community of Kohala for treating us so kindly.
