And So it Begins...
E Ho Mai
E ho mai, ka ike mai luna mai e,
Grant us the knowledge from above,
O na mea huna noeau, o na mele e,
Concerning the hidden wisdom of songs,
E ho mai, e ho mai, e ho mai…
Grant, grant, grant us these things…
- composed by Edith Kanakaole
- taught to the Ka Hana Noeau mentorship groups by Billy Richards
The mentees' eyes twinkled in anticipation as David Fuertes walked to the front of the room to give his opening remarks at the first Ka Hana No'eau mentorship meeting. "You have just become a part of a family; a family, I hope, that will continue to grow together. I'd like you to be able to think of the KIC as your new home."
Explanations were given, introductions were made and the groups split up into their designated areas where the mentors gave brief overviews of what was to come. Parents and kids listened intently. There was a certain excitement in the air as each mentor's knowledge of his or her subject area was shared with his or her na haumana (mentees). Immediately, planning began. The Ka Hana No'eau mentorship program is now in motion and off to a great start!
The mentors are meeting with their mentees on a regular basis and are already well into their projects.
